- is Professor of Italian Literature at the University of Bologna. He has published extensively in Intersezioni, Paragone, Il piccolo Hans. He edited the Einaudi-Gallimard edition of Italo Svevo’s Una vita (1993), and in 1995 he published La più semplice macchina. Lettura freudiana del «Pasticciaccio».
- Alba Andreini – Università di Torino
- is Professor of Modern and Contemporary Italian Literature at the University of Turin. Her books include La ragione letteraria. Saggio sul giovane Vittorini (1979), Studi e testi gaddiani (1988). She edited unpublished works by Gadda (Il palazzo degli ori, 1983; I miti del somaro, 1988) and Morante (Diario 1938, 1989). She co-edited La coscienza infelice. Carlo Emilio Gadda (1996) with Marziano Guglielminetti, and, with Roberto Tessari, La letteratura in scena. Gadda e il teatro (2001). She has published on Aleramo (in Svelamento. - is Professor of Modern and Contemporary Italian Literature at the University of Pisa. Her books include La soggettività nel racconto. Proust e Svevo (1984), Una trappola di parole. Indagine su una figura cancellata (1999). She contributes regularly to the Italian edition of the New York Review of Books.
- Manuela Bertone – Université de Nice-Sophia Antipolis
- is Professor of Italian Literature at the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis. She is the author of Il romanzo come sistema. Molteplicità e differenza in C.E. Gadda (1993), and Tomasi di Lampedusa (1995). With R.S. Dombroski she edited the collection of essays Carlo Emilio Gadda. Contemporaray Perspectives (1997). She also published Gadda’s I Littoriali del lavoro e altri scritti giornalistici 1932-1941 (2005). She has written on Italian and French literature for several European and American critical journals.

- is Professor of Literary Theory at the University of Bologna. His books include Il testo a quattro mani. Per una teoria della lettura (1996), Romanzo (1998), La verità sospetta. Gadda e l’invenzione della realtà (2001).
- Giuseppe Bonifacino – Università di Bari
- is Associate Professor in Italian contemporary literature at the University of Bari. While his main research area is twentieth-century Italian literature, he also engages actively in questions of literary theory and wider aspects of the critical and methodological debate. Besides working on some of the greatest Italian modern writers (Palazzeschi, Calvino, Volponi, Montale), Bonifacino has devoted a great deal of critical attention to the works of C.E. Gadda, culminating in his monograph Il groviglio delle parvenze. Studio su Carlo Emilio Gadda (2002). He has also published a brief history of contemporary Italian literature (2002). He is currently working on a book called Tempo e personaggio in Pirandello e Gadda, as well as preparing an annotated anthology of Gadda’s essays.
- Giampaolo Borghello – Università di Udine
- is Distinguished Professor of Contemporary Italian Literature at the University of Udine. His books include Letteratura e marxismo (1974), Interpretazioni di Pasolini (1977), La coscienza borghese. - Raffaele Donnarumma – Università di Pisa
- is Associate Professor at the University of Pisa, and a member of the editorial board of Allegoria. His books include Storia dell’«Orlando innamorato» (1996), Gadda. Romanzo e pastiche (2001), Gadda modernista (2006), Da lontano. Calvino, la semiologia, lo strutturalismo (2008). He has also published on Manganelli, Morante, Tomasi di Lampedusa, Pynchon, Zanzotto, Malerba, Palazzeschi and Italian postmodernism.
- Marina Fratnik – Université de Paris VIII
- is Professor of Italian Literature at the University of Paris VIII. She has published on literary theory and twentieth century literature (Proust, Salgari, Gadda, Pea, Tozzi). Among her books: L’écriture détournée. Essai sur le texte narratif de C. E. Gadda (1990), E. Pea et l’écriture du moi (1997), and Paysages. Essai sur la description de F. Tozzi (2002). With F. Dupuigrenet Desroussilles, she has translated Accoppiamenti giudiziosi into French (1989).

- is Professor of Italian Linguistics at the Università per stranieri, Siena, she is also a member of the Comitato Scientifico del Fondo Manoscritti di Pavia and sits on the editorial boards of the journals Autografo and Moderna. She has published widely on twentieth century Italian literature (Pirandello, De Marchi, and Carlo Levi). Among her books, Prologhi ed epiloghi. Sulla poesia di Eugenio Montale. Con una prosa inedita (1987), La vita della foresta di William Henry Hudson nella traduzione di Eugenio Montale (1987), Dislocazioni. Epifanie e metamorfosi in Montale (1998), winner of the 1999 Ossi di seppia prize.

- Peter Hainsworth – Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford
- is Professor of Italian at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford. He has published various articles on early Italian poetry and the monograph Petrarch the Poet (1988). He has also published articles on twentieth century Italian literature, concentrating on relations between Fascism and literature. These include Fascism and Anti-Fascism in Gadda in Bertone and Dombroski (eds), Carlo Emilio Gadda: Contemporary Perspectives (1997). He is currently editing (with D. Robey) the Oxford Companion to Italian Literature.

- author, has published many crime fiction novels with Inspector Antonio Sarti as protagonist, including Un diavolo per capello (1980), Caccia tragica (1981), L’amico americano (1983), Stop per Sarti Antonio (1987), Un poliziotto, una città (1994), Coscienza sporca (1995), many of which have been adapted for television.
- Martin McLaughlin – University of Oxford
- is Fiat-Serena Professor of Italian Studies and Fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford. His publications include Literary Imitation in the Italian Renaissance (1995), a monograph on Italo Calvino (1998), and he has recently edited a volume of essays, Britain and Italy from Romanticism to Modernism (2000). He has translated works by Italo Calvino – Why Read the Classics? (1999), which won the Florio Translation Prize, and Hermit in Paris (2003) – and by Umberto Eco, On Literature (2004).
- Emilio Manzotti – Université de Genève
- is Professor of Italian Linguistics at the University of Geneva and has published widely in the area of discourse analysis. His many contributions to Gadda criticism include his critical edition with commentary of La cognizione del dolore, published by Einaudi in 1987, Le ragioni del dolore – Carlo Emilio Gadda 1893-1993 (1993), and a long chapter on La cognizione contained in the fourth volume of Letteratura italiana published by Einaudi.

- is a graduate from the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, where he studied with Gianfranco Contini, Piero Cudini, Antonio La Penna & Giovanni Nencioni. In his present position he is also teacher trainer for history of the Italian language, film studies and history of Italian cinema, and the languages of science.

- is Professor of Literary Metatheory and Modern Italian Studies at Edinburgh University. She is the founder and director of the Edinburgh Journal of Gadda Studies (EJGS). - is Professor of Modern and Contemporary Italian Literature at La Sapienza. A professional journalist as well as an academic throughout his career, he was President of Rai and of the Teatro di Roma. - Lino Pertile – Harvard University
- is Professor of Romance Languages and Literatures and Professor of Comparative Literature at Harvard University. He has published on Italian and French literature from the Renaissance to the twentieth century. He has co-edited The New Italian Novel (1993) and The Cambridge History of Italian Literature (1996). He has published the critical edition of the Annotationi nel Dante fatte con M. Trifon Gabriele in Bassano (1993). His many study on Dante have appeared in Lettere Italiane, Dante Studies, Lectura Dantis, Filologia e critica, Italian Studies, The Italianist, and in several collections appeared in Italy, Britain, the USA and Canada. His book La puttana e il gigante (1998) was awarded the Zingarelli prize.
- Giorgio Pinotti – Adelphi Publishers
- is Editor in Chief at Adelphi, Milan. For Adelphi he has translated works by Georges Simenon, Jean Genet (Elsa Morante-Isola di Arturo Prize for the translation), Vincent de Swarte, Milan Kundera, Jean Echenoz. As well as on Gadda, he has published essays on the humanist writer Curio Lancillotto Pasio, D’Annunzio’s Laudi, and, in Francophone studies, Georges Simenon and Irène Némirovsky. As part of Garzanti’s «Opere» (1988-1993), he edited Quer pasticciaccio brutto de via Merulana (1989), Eros e Priapo (1992), Il palazzo degli ori and I miti del somaro (1993). Other edited Gadda works include: Disegni milanesi (together with Dante Isella and Paola Italia, 1995), the Gadda-Garzanti letters (2006), and Villa in Brianza (2007). Together with Luisa Finocchi, he designed and co-ordinates the course on Editorial Studies for the Master in Publishing launched by the University of Milan in 2002.

- is a Graduate from Pisa University. She has been working in the Technical team at the Istituto di Linguistica Computazionale of the CNR Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Pisa since 1974. From 1991 onwards she has been a CNR Researcher with responsibility in many national projects and participation in International projects. An expert in linguistic and textual data processing, she has contributed to the creation of on-line linguistic resources such as the Archivio elettronico delle opere di Carlo Emilio Gadda.
- Albert Sbragia – University of Washington, Seattle
- is Associate Professor of Italian and Director of the Cinema Studies Program at the University of Washington (Seattle). His publications on Gadda include Carlo Emilio Gadda and the Modern Macaronic (1996) and entries for the Dictionary of Literary Biography Postwar Italian Narrators (1997) and the Feminist Encyclopedia of Italian Literature (1997). He is currently at work on a book project entitled Modernity in Rome: From Piranesi to Pasolini which will include a chapter dedicated to Gadda.
- Giuseppe Stellardi – St. Hugh’s College, Oxford
- studied in Pavia and Paris. His main research interests lie in modern Italian literature, literary theory and continental philosophy. He has written on Dossi, Tarchetti, Svevo, Gadda, Moravia, Eco; also, on Deconstruction (Derrida), and on metaphor. He has recently published a book on metaphor in Derrida and Heidegger, and is currently working on a monograph on Carlo Emilio Gadda, as well as on the English translation of Carlo Michelstaedter’s La persuasione e la rettorica.
- Maria Antonietta Terzoli – Universität Basel
- is Professor of Italian at the University of Basel. She has published on Parini, Foscolo (ll libro di Jacopo, 1988 – awarded the Cesare Angelini prize in 1989), Leopardi, D’Annunzio, Ungaretti and Gadda (La casa della Cognizione, 1993). She has edited critical editions of Foscolo (Vestigi della storia del sonetto, 1993), Ungaretti (Poesie e prose liriche, 1989 – winner of the Nuova Antologia prize in 1990) and of Gadda’s complete poems (1993). In 1993 she organised an international symposium on Gadda. The conference proceedings were published as Le lingue di Gadda in 1995. Her latest book is Foscolo (2000).

- is Giuseppe Ungaretti Professor of Italian Literature at Columbia University.
